Today is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, and every year it makes me pause and reflect on my own journey of motherhood with CP. Some days, it feels like my body has its own agenda—I get tired faster, simple tasks take extra effort, and I have to find creative ways to do things that others take for granted.
But then I look at my children, and I see the love and joy that fill our days. I see tiny hands reaching for mine, laughter echoing through the house, and the little victories we celebrate together. Those moments remind me that motherhood with CP isn’t about limitations—it’s about showing up, adapting, and loving fully, in ways only we can.
Raising kids while navigating CP has taught me resilience I didn’t know I had. I’ve learned to ask for help, to celebrate small wins, and to embrace the unconventional ways we do things. Every hug, every bedtime story, every messy craft project is a triumph—not despite my CP, but alongside it.
Awareness matters, because not everyone sees this side of motherhood. Sharing stories like ours helps break misconceptions, encourages understanding, and highlights the creativity and perseverance that parents with CP bring to raising their families.
So today, on Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, I hope you’ll take a moment to think about the parents navigating motherhood with CP. To those mothers: your love, ingenuity, and strength inspire everyone around you. You are showing your children—and the world—that parenting isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence, courage, and heart.
đź’› Motherhood with CP may look different, but it is every bit as meaningful, joyful, and powerful as any other.
