Every October 6th, the world comes together to recognize World Cerebral Palsy Day — a day to celebrate over 50 million people around the globe living with CP.
For a long time, though, I’ll be honest — I didn’t celebrate it. I used to hate World CP Day.
It wasn’t because I didn’t care about the community or the cause. It was because I didn’t want to acknowledge it in myself.
I didn’t want to become “the girl with CP.” I wanted to blend in, not stand out. To be seen as me — not my diagnosis.
But somewhere along the way, that started to change.
✨️ What World CP Day Means to Me Now ✨️
As a mom with Cerebral Palsy, I’ve learned that embracing this part of me doesn’t mean I’m defined by it.
CP is a part of my story — but it’s not my whole story.
The freedom I’ve found in loving myself where I am has been life-changing. I no longer feel like I have to hide or explain myself. I can honor the hard days and still celebrate the joy, the humor, and the pride that comes with simply being me.
CP doesn’t pause for motherhood, and motherhood doesn’t pause for CP. We adapt, we find creative solutions, and we redefine what strength looks like every single day. That’s what I celebrate now on World CP Day — not perfection, but perseverance.
👩🦽 Breaking Stereotypes
When people think of Cerebral Palsy, they often imagine limits. But what they don’t see are the endless ways we innovate and show up — for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
Being a mom with CP has taught me that accessibility isn’t just about ramps or mobility aids (though those matter deeply!) — it’s also about representation, understanding, and grace.
We’re rewriting the narrative. Our stories matter, and they’re powerful.
💚 Teaching the Next Generation
One of my biggest hopes is that my kids grow up seeing disability not as something to fear, but as something that simply is.
They’ll grow up knowing that their mom moves a little differently, but she’s strong, loving, and capable — and that difference is something beautiful, not broken.
✨️ A Call to Connection
If you’re another parent with CP — or a parent raising a child with CP — you’re not alone.
There’s a whole community out here cheering you on.
World CP Day is for us. For every time we’ve been underestimated, for every goal we’ve crushed, for every quiet moment of strength no one else sees.
Let’s keep showing up, sharing our stories, and supporting each other — not just today, but every day.
Because this world is brighter with our voices in it.
