Satan Wants Us to Hate Our Bodies

Motherhood with CP is hard. There are a lot of days I don’t like my body.

A friend recently sent me a video that sparked a thought I can’t shake: Satan doesn’t have a body. Maybe that’s why he wants us to hate ours.

As a mom with Cerebral Palsy, this struck deep. My body moves differently. Everyday tasks can be a challenge. I’ve wrestled with frustration, comparison, and the lie that my body is “less than,” or that I needed to be fixed. There have been times I’ve believed that my worth was tied to what my body could or couldn’t do.

And that’s exactly what Satan wants.

But then I remembered something I read in Jen Wilkin’s book In His Image. Wilkin reminds us that we were created not just by God but in His image—to reflect His character to the world.

Our bodies are part of that image-bearing design. They’re not an accident. They’re not disposable. They’re integral to who we are and how God shows Himself through us.

When Satan tempts us to despise our bodies, he’s not just attacking us—he’s attacking God’s image in us.

That’s why Scripture reminds us again and again that our bodies matter:

God declared them very good at creation (Genesis 1:31).

Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

One day, they will be resurrected and restored (1 Corinthians 15).

Satan has none of that. He has no body, no flesh to hug a child, no mouth to praise God, no hands to serve. So he twists what is good and convinces us to hate what God calls holy.

But the truth is this: even in weakness, even in disability, even in difference, our bodies tell a story of God’s power and goodness.

“Therefore… offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).

As a mom doing motherhood with CP, I want my kids to see me live this truth. I may walk differently, I may struggle with things other parents find easy, but my body is still a vessel of God’s image. And that is worth honoring.

✨ So the next time you feel tempted to look in the mirror with shame or compare yourself to someone else, remember this: your body was made in God’s image. Don’t let Satan convince you to despise what God has declared good.
